This acquisition does not make any sense. We are in need of more pitching, not more hitting. Where the heck is Encarnacion supposed to play? If it’s first base, are they giving up on Luke Voit? I think not with 16 hrs so far. Is it DH? I think not if that’s where Stanton is supposed to land. And what does that do to our best hitter this year in LeMahieu? Why didn’t he (Cash) ask for one of Seattle’s pitchers instead? That would’ve made more sense. This is a real head scratcher!
It makes sense to me... It tells me that Cashman now has more chips to deal in attempting to trade for a starting pitcher.
Encarrnacion will be the DH, Stanton will play left-field most of the time. Gardner will not play as much, LeMahieu will play 3rd, and play the other infield positions when Didi, Gleyber and Voit get a day off. Speaking of Voit's 16 home runs, Encarnacion leads the American League so far this season with 21 home runs, in a hitter's not so friendly ballpark..
Frazier could be that chip which lands us a top line starting pitcher. I'd hate to see Red Thunder go, but you have to give up something in order to get something, and I personally would rather trade Frazier than Estevan Florial, even if he's unproven at tis point. Florial is a five tool player, where Frazier is not. Florial bats left-handed, Frazier bats right.
I always saw a big difference when they added a great hitter to an already potent line up in the past. ie: Reggie, Justice, A-Rod, Teix.
In Cashman I Trust.
