Team Chemistry

This is the intangible quantitative that is overlooked by all the technology of saber metrics & computers - probably not just in MLB but this what I follow the most and the Yankees in particular. This year took a little longer to rear its ugly head with all the injuries. It seemed that each reinforcement brought up from the minors did a commendable job of filling a spot. Domingo Germain was a top starter filling in for Severino &/or CC- Urshela proved more than adequate when Miggy went out for surgery; Estrada just went where he was put & did the job. Nestor Cortes, Jr has come through when an opener was used or long relief needed. A few veterans also showed their grit - DJ was signed to be that roving infielder spelling the regulars but shined through as a normal 2nd sacker when Wade struggled & Miggy went down. Now with the injured returning he will get that chance but maybe with more time at 3rd as Urshela struggles a bit (maybe because pitchers are catching up with him & he needs to adjust but he "D" is not to be questioned. AAron Hicks has returned & is finding his timing. Clint Frazier was put in right field - an adventure for sure he is still learning the routes & flight of the ball off the bat but improves each time. Cameron Maybin has also been an adequate OF replacement. Bringing up or signing FAs could fall under the technology part. BUT the chemistry of this team just might be embodied in AARON JUDGE. Aaron suffered an oblique strain early but stayed with the team working out as allowed. He was on the bench, in the dugout welcoming & encouraging teammates. While his presence was there, there was a winning spirit that allowed them to make up the difference & catch the Rays while putting a few games between us & the Sux. We watched the last few weeks as the team struggled- unable to hold a lead as starters struggled; the pen showed signs of fatigue or whatever; those clutch hits seem to be missing. What happened - maybe 'that's baseball Susan' - but tangible facts: Aaron Judge began rehabbing in Tampa no longer traveling with the team; Thairo Estrada was demoted back to S/WB instead of DFA-ing Morales who really has not done much to contribute. What those computer geniuses need to do is factor the human element into their strong recommendations for lineups/pitching changes, etc.
Of course these are just MHO & thoughts after nightmares of last night's debacle in ChiTown. You might not agree but oh well this almost 74 year old just had to rant
