The Yankees are preparing as if the injury plague that has hounded their season is about to get worse.
The Yankees called up catcher Kyle Higashioka on Thursday, Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre manager Jay Bell announced after the RailRiders’ 9-8, 10-inning win over Buffalo at PNC Field.
It is unclear what this means for Gary Sanchez, who hasn’t caught since Monday with what the Yankees have termed tightness in his lower legs. Higashioka would be the team’s third catcher, as Austin Romine saw a lot of time during the series with the Astros.
