Eovaldi was pretty good before he had surgery, Pineda was bad, after he had surgery. There's a difference. But I guess money talks and bs walks. All is forgiven once the dollars start being waved around.
Eovaldi as a Yankee pitcher had an ERA of:
1. 4.20 in 2015
2. 4.76 in 2016.
*Career ERA 4.15
Pineda as a Yankee had an ERA of:
1. 1.89 in 2014
2. 4.37 in 2015
3. 4.82 in 2016
*Career ERA 4.05
Sorry PRY, but there is no difference between Nathan Eovaldi and Michael Pineda as Yankee pitchers, or in their careers. Both were equally inconsistent when they both wore the pinstripes. In fact, one could argue that Pineda was a little better than Eovaldi as a Yankee pitcher. (Btw, Pineda hasn't pitched yet since his TJ surgery, so I don't understand how you can say, "Pineda was bad after he had surgery"
.
Now would I welcome Eovaldi back as a free agent signing? Yes, but in no way did the Yankees make a mistake in not re-signing him after he had his second Tommy John surgery during his walk year in 2016, which lead to him signing with Tampa Bay. If it was a mistake, then it was also a mistake to let Pineda slip away to Minnesota.
