There are many reasons for losing tonight BUT a big factor was Sabathia giving up 3 in the 3rd. He wasn't sharp in the first two so really was surprised to see him come out for the 3rd especially with DRob warming in the pen. Why the he!! was he allowed to continue with so much at stake. After the blowout Monday, how demoralizing to fall behind by 3 even early in the game - at least the Bronx faithful were behind the team. Mismanaging the starters and the pen falls on the pitching coach, Larry Rothchild. Aaron Boone takes the ultimate responsibility for these decisions as manager BUT shouldn't he rely on the coaching staff to advise on their respective roles. It goes back to ST when Dellin pitched his one inning and was in the clubhouse. No one was ready in the pen so he had to regroup & come out to pitch another inning. Last night with Severino - IMO it's a coverup to protect Rothchild that he didn't warm up properly - otherwise it was a blatant screwup. Maybe age is catching up with him. If you pay attention during the regular season, pregame coverage will usually show the starter, catcher & pitching coach heading to the bull pen or heading for the dugout prior to first pitch. We've also seen it when the teams are introduced prior to the start of the game - the pitcher & catcher are in the pen not lining up. Introductions had been made when we saw Severino just getting started with his warmups. If Rothchild isn't gone after the season, I will be really disappointed in Cash & Hal.
Interesting that Sunday night ARod was texting with Sanchez - when someone mentioned it, Alex 'joke' that Gary was asking what time the game started Monday?? Of course there were two games played so was he inquiring about the Dodger/Brave game??? In light of Sevy's tardiness to the pen to warmup who knows.
Not going to debate the other stuff right now just too pissed off losing the hated Sux. Stanton failed miserably in his first playoff - he had a chance to come through in the 9th. Sac fly by Sanchez brings us within 1 - too little too late. No more baseball for me until ST
