Report: Aaron Boone hired to succeed Joe Girardi.(AP)
After a lengthy interview process, the New York Yankees have reportedly chosen Aaron Boone to be the manager of the club in 2018.
Boone, 44, played 54 games for the Yankees in 2003, and notably sent the club to the World Series with an unforgettable walk-off home run against the Boston Red Sox in the 11th inning of Game 7 in the ALCS.
He has most recently served as an analyst for ESPN's MLB broadcasts, after a 12-year playing career with six different clubs.
Boone beat out a group of six finalists for the opportunity to succeed Joe Girardi, whose contract was not renewed following a 10-year managerial stint capped off by a thrilling postseason run in 2017.
Carlos Beltran, Hensley Meulens, Eric Wedge, Chris Woodward and Rob Thomson were among the candidates considered for the role, but it will be Boone taking over a young Yankees team poised for long-term postseason success.
