Yankees reportedly set to recall top catching prospect Gary Sanchez from Triple-A.(USA Today)
As the New York Yankees continue to tweak their major league roster following this year's trade deadline, it appears that top catching prospect Gary Sanchez will soon be joining the big league club once again.
According to reports, Sanchez learned the news that he was heading to The Bronx following Tuesday night's game between the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.

Sanchez went 0-for-3 with a walk serving as the designated hitter in a game marked by the return of outfielder Aaron Judge (1-for-3, 2cool smiley from the disabled list, as well as the debut of Yankees No. 1 prospect Clint Frazier, who went 0-for-4 for the RailRiders.

On the season, the 23-year-old Sanchez has hit .282 and slugged .468 with 21 doubles, 10 homers and 50 RBI. Currently ranked fifth by MLB.com among prospects in the organization, Sanchez made his major league debut last October 3, 2015, and appeared in one game earlier this season on May 13.

Originally signed as an amateur free agent in 2009 out of the Dominican Republic, Sanchez has spent the last six and a half years developing in the Yankees organization, where he's become one of the preeminent catching prospects in all of baseball.

Sanchez has awaited his opportunity to make his mark at the major league level since first being promoted to Triple-A midway through the 2015 season, but fans have clamored to see him in Yankees pinstripes for years. General Manager Brian Cashman offered up the nickname "The Kraken" to describe the Yankees' power-hitting backstop, but some have questioned whether he's ready to catch at the big league level.

Should Sanchez start Wednesday night, he'll either be used as a designated hitter or as catcher, but Chad Green is set to make the start for the home-half of this year's Subway Series. Green and Sanchez know each other well from their time together with the RailRiders, which could help ease Sanchez's transition back into the majors.

With Sanchez's impending promotion, the Yankees 'youth movement' appears to be in full effect now, as New York will take the remainder of the 2016 season to see how several of the new talented pieces might fit into future Yankees lineups in 2017 and beyond. The upcoming September 1 roster expansion to 40 men will also aid in the team's ability to juxtapose each of their most promising prospects, as they begin to sculpt the New York Yankees of the future.

The Yankees welcome the crosstown rival Mets to The Bronx Wednesday night, after splitting the road-half of their series in Queens earlier in the week. As mentioned, Chad Green is scheduled to make his fourth start of the season, and may remain in the Yankees rotation after the departure of longtime pitcher Ivan Nova, who was dealt to the Pirates at the deadline.
