With the Yankees’ infield depth having taken a beating thanks to injuries to Miguel Andujar and Troy Tulowitzki — as well as the fact that Didi Gregorius is still rehabbing from Tommy John surgery — the team took a flier on veteran infielder Cliff Pennington.
The team announced the move on Friday and sent the 34-year-old Pennington to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He spent 2018 with the Reds and Rangers, mostly in the minors, although he appeared in 16 games with Cincinnati.
