The official announcement is expected Monday - following the regular season games- that a the group of Derek Jeter (4% ownership) & others have purchased the Miami Marlins from Luria. Jeter has already begun making personnel changes. It will really seem strange not seeing him in Yankee pinstripes - guess this is part of the reason he hasn't returned to The Cathedral except for his #2 being retired. Part of the article:
Derek Jeter's purchase of the Miami Marlins franchise took another step closer to becoming finalized, after MLB owners reportedly gave him the final approval he and his ownership group needed to make the deal official, according to the Miami Herald.
Jeter and his partner Bruce Sherman, owner of a 46 percent stake in the team, previously reached an agreement with Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria to purchase the club for a sum of $1.2 billion, and on Wednesday, MLB's owners unanimously approved Jeter and Sherman's group to take over the reins in Miami.
