'Veterans' Lead the Way

You listen to post-game comments whether it's Joe G or the players, they have one overtone - this is a TEAM, every game never sure who will be the leader. With Aaron Judge taking an 0fer last night, the other Aaron (Hicks) and Starlin Castro took the offense each going yard . The tone of the game was really set in the first inning as Gardy led of with a double scoring on Hicks' bunt single when it was bobbled for an error. When all was said & done, Jordon Montgomery had a 5 run lead when he took the mound and we were in the Cubs' tired pen. That cushion gave Joe the opportunity to let Jordy get the experience of pitching into trouble and being able to recover and get out it.
I'm a little worried (no not about Judge not getting a home run) about Tommy Layne. Maybe he just hasn't found his rhythm this year but he doesn't seem to have the control as last year. He hasn't been dependable coming into a game - a lefty specialist needs to get those outs. Adam Warren making his first appearance in Wrigley since returning to the Yankees, got the final 5 outs after giving up a double in the bottom of the 8th and no runs scored. Not a Joe Buck fan but it was fun listening to John Smoltz on FOX - he brings as much knowledge to the booth as he did to the mound. Tonight the game is on Sux-oriented SPN.
