The New York Yankees have officially begun their fire sale, as they have reportedly traded Andrew Miller to the Cleveland Indians.

The New York Yankees had an opportunity to prove to management to hold off on trading away players before the trade deadline, however losing two games to the Tampa Bay Rays has resulted in the Yankees officially becoming sellers.

Making the decision to trade Aroldis Chapman a few days ago was a rather easy one for management, as he was a free agent at the end of the season. The player that the Yankees had a difficult time making up their minds about was Andrew Miller. Miller is still under contract for two years at a very affordable price, which made the decision to trade him a bit more difficult.

According to Buster Olney, the Yankees have traded Miller to the Cleveland Indians for four prospects. Among the prospects that the Yankees got in return were outfielder Clint Frazier and pitcher Justus Sheffield.

Clint Frazier and Justus Sheffield generally regarded as two of the Indians' three best prospects. A strong haul for the Yankees.

The trade means that the Yankees are going into a bit of a rebuild, and their farm system is now stacked with great prospects. Frazier is currently ranked as the 24th best prospect in baseball according to MLB.com, as he has totaled a .276 batting average, 13 home runs, and 48 RBIs in Double-A this season. Sheffield is also a top 100 prospect, as he has totaled a 7-5 record and 3.59 ERA this season in the Carolina League.

The Indians are going all-in on this season, as they have made some big moves in recent days to acquire Miller and Jonathan Lucroy from the Milwaukee Brewers. The addition of Miller gives the Indians either a great closer or setup man to Cody Allen. Miller has shown the willingness to be used in both roles and has done both very well.

Losing Miller will be a big blow to the Yankees’ bullpen, as he was an excellent pitcher for them during his time on the team. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman will now likely continue to try and move some of the veteran players on the Yankees, and continue to stock the farm system with talent.
